Everything we ate in South Beach: Day 1

There was a break down in communication somewhere along the line, and there were no burgers to be tasted. There were however, celebrity chefs running all over the place prepping for their own entries. We ran into Tim Love, who's been a guest judge on Top Chef quite a few times over the years. Once we gave up the tasting ghost, we figured we might as well take advantage of the venue and have ourselves a Ritz Carlton cocktail. Vanessa was the rep from the magazine who was my point of contact for this leg of the trip, and she was on a secret ninja mission. I can't tell you what it was because then it wouldn't be secret ninja anymore, but suffice it to say she was hell bent on completing it. Yolanda and I basically trailed after her like a couple of confused puppies while she called and texted and emailed and whatever else she could think of to accomplish her goal, and along the way got to peek at the tent for the next day's event. It's a good thing we did, because up until that point I hadn't realized that the "beach" part of the locale was literal. The tent was pitched right there in the sand. I made a mental note to wear entirely different shoes. Eventually we wound up on a patio that was marked as for hotel guests only, overlooking a beautiful infinity edged pool.
